Eric Hiscock (Builder 2025)

Eric has been volunteering in the sport of Volleyball since 1990. He has coached everything from Grade 7 through High school, Team NL, and a senior ladies team. As of 2025, he still coaches this ladies team in the NLVA Senior league. He was also the Manager of the 2005 Canada Games girls team. Eric has received multiple provincial awards, including the Reg Soper Award for support and dedication to volleyball, the Darryl Pye award for Community Development and most recently a special dedication and service award at the 2024 NLVA banquet created specifically to celebrate Eric’s excellence and longevity in volunteerism.
Eric started Volleyball on Bell Island in 1990 after never having played the sport himself. He created the Islanders Volleyball Club and the sport grew tremendously over the years. Many players went on to play at a Provincial level, and a few made University teams as well. Since moving off the island in 2008, the sport is still very popular today because of Eric’s commitment to the island and sport. Currently, many of the athletes that he developed are now coaching themselves. He was inducted into the Bell Island Hall of Fame in 2001 for his instrumental role in developing the infrastructure needed to bring Volleyball to the island.
Eric first became an NLVA Executive Member as secretary, then quickly continued his dedication to Volleyball in our province for an astonishing 24 years as the President of our Provincial Sports Association. At present, he is the longest standing President of any Volleyball PSO in Canada. Eric has supported members of our association in countless capacities over the years and has been a mentor to many. He has logged thousands of volunteer hours and his contributions to volleyball will have a lasting impact for years to come.
