Induction into the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Hall of Fame is the highest honour Volleyball can bestow on an individual in this province. Elizabeth Dale is honoured by her peers for her contribution to Volleyball as an Athlete.

Elizabeth began her career as a volleyball player in 1962 for United Collegiate, High School Volleyball Team. Over the next number of years Elizabeth developed into one of the most dominant spikers (power hitters) in the Province. In 1963 – 65 she played high school volleyball for Prince of Wales Collegiate and from there continued on to play for Memorial from 1965 – 1969. While at Memorial she helped her team to earn three provincial senior championships in 66-67, 67-68, 68-69 and a junior provincial championship in 1967 – 68. During these years while playing for Memorial her teams attended the Eastern Canadian Junior Championships finishing 4th; winner of the AWIAA sectional tournament; and attended the Canadian Senior Championships in Fredericton, N.B.. In addition to her play for Memorial, in 1967 she played on the 1st NF & Lab Canada Games Winter Games Volleyball Team in Quebec City. In 1967 -68, Elizabeth was scouted for a tryout with the Canadian National Team.

Upon completion of her University career she continued to play on the Senior circuit until 1978. During these years she helped her teams; the St. John’s Grads, Guards, Black Horse and Holy Heart Alumnae to three Provincial Senior Championships, three second place finishes and a St. John’s City Championship. During the years 1969-1978 her teams competed in seven National Championships across the country ranging from Vancouver to the Atlantics. In addition, Elizabeth was named as the Guards Athletic Assoc. MVP for Volleyball in 1970-71 and was named to the Provincial All Star team in 1976 -77.

In addition to her volleyball playing accomplishments, Elizabeth played Canada Games Field Hockey (1969), Canada Games Basketball 1971 and as well represented Memorial in Varsity Basketball and Field Hockey. Administratively she was an executive member of the NVA from 1969 to 1973 as Secretary – Treasurer. In 1969 – 70 she received the Athletic Honour Society Award for Outstanding Contribution to Varsity Athletics at Memorial. Finally, this year (1998) Elizabeth has been named as part of the selection committee for the Provincial Sport Hall of Fame.
