2005-2006 16U Clarenville Cougars (Team 2022)
The 2005-2006 Clarenville Cougars 16 U Men’s team capped off a magnificent season with a silver medal at the 2006 Eastern Canadian Championships in Moncton New Brunswick.
Leading up to the Eastern Canadians, the Cougars, coached by Randy and Daniel Manning and Graham Joliffe, lost only one match in Newfoundland that year before losing to 18-16 in the third set of the Championship match to the Pakmen out of Mississauga Ontario.
Brad Pitcher and Blair Parsons were named Eastern Canadian Allstar Team. During the 2005-2006 volleyball season, the 16 U Cougars finished 2nd at the provincial 16U championship with a 5-1 record, 1st at the 17 U Provincial Championships with an undefeated 6-0 record and 1st place at the 2006 Winter Games with a perfect 5-0 record.
The team was named the 2006 NLVA Team of The Year, the winners of the Bill Davis Memorial Award at the Town of Clarenville CARA Awards for Team of the Year and Brad Pitcher was named the winner of the Peter S. Sholock memorial Award for Athlete of the Year.
Blair Parsons was named NLVA Junior High Player of the Year. Brad Pitcher and Kenneth Neil were finalists for NLVA Player of the Year. Coach Randy Manning as named winner of the NLVA Reg Soper for his work and dedication in Volleyball. The Clarenville Volleyball Club also won the Community Development Award.
The core of the team went on to win another 17 U provincial championship (2007), the 18 U provincial championship (2007), SSNL 4A Championship 2007, and the Dalhousie High School Classic (2006)
Other individual successes included 10 of 12 Players were selected to NL Provincial Team in 2006. Team players Brad Jolliffe, Brad Pitcher, Josh Ennis, John Howell, Andrew Upshall, and Blair Parsons all competed for Memorial University at the Varsity level. Brad Jolliffe was named 2012 AUS Libero of the Year and Brad Pitcher was named Memorial University Captain from 2010-2013.
