TEAM NL TRYOUT 14U AVALON REGION

Good day Parent’s and Athletes, due to unforeseen issues the tryout date for Team NL Avalon region has been changed. The tryouts will now be happening on Monday May 27th.

To try and alleviate some of the numbers in the weekend tryout the Avalon tryout will be a preselection tryout for the full Team NL tryout on May 31st and June 1st. All 14U athletes in the Avalon region must attend the Monday tryout. Athletes who are selected will be informed by email and will have to attend the weekend tryout to continue with the selection process.

Next Generation Program Overview

The NLVA Next Generation Provincial Team Program is designed to prepare athletes to make the transition into elite volleyball. In this program, athletes will be introduced to elite technical skill training, mental skills training, sports nutritional information, and physical conditioning programs. All aspects of the Next Generation Program are specifically tailored to Male and Female athletes 14 years and younger. These ages align with our Provincial Team Programs and Canada Games programs.

Process

For the first time in 2024 the NLVA will not have tryouts for this program.  We will be offering 4 programs for athletes in these age groups. The NLVA will be taking 84 athletes per program with athletes registering first come first serve basis.

Program Dates: (Registration will open in Early April – Date will be announced later next week)

Next Gen 13U Male and Female

(Program 1: June 23-24-25/ Program 2: June 26-27-28)

Next Gen 14U Male and Female

(Program 1: July 2-3-4/ Program 2: July 5-6-7)

Provincial Team Program

The Provincial Team Program is an annual program where selected athletes are chosen to 1 of 2 programs.

The Provincial Training Excellence (PTE) Program is designed for athletes who need intensive skill training to advance themselves in the sport and is only available to athletes in the 15U and 16U age category. There will be 84 available spaces, athletes will be registering on a first come first serve basis.
The PTE Program will be at the NL Sports Centre July 8-9-10-11-12

The Eastern Elite Championship Program (EEC) is tailored to athletes who require a team environment and competition to advance their skills. This program is currently runs in two age categories, 15U/16U and 13U/14U.

*Note* This has been an 18U program in previous years, however there is no longer a competitive category for athletes ages 17 and up.

The EEC Championships will be in Fredericton, NB July 18-21, 2024

(Training at the NL Sports Centre TBD)

Team NL EEC Program (10-12 athletes per team)

  • 3 14U Female teams (Born in 2010 and younger)
  • 3 16U Female teams (Born in 2008 and younger)
  • 3 16U Male teams (Born in 2008 and younger)
  • 2 14U Male teams (Born in 2010 and younger)

*Note* There may be an option for EEC athletes to attend a Beach Volleyball event in NB or NS. More details will be provided once the event location has been confirmed.

Process:

Team NL Tryouts will be in one location for 2024.  With 2025 Canada Games Programs entering its final cycle – Canada Games Coaches will be onsite to view athletes in the 2008 and younger age groups to identify any potential athletes in younger age groups that may have the ability to enter the Canada Games Pool this summer for training.  As a result, all athletes need to be viewed together in the same training environment for evaluation.

Team NL Tryouts:

April 12-13 (Memorial University – St. John’s Campus)

Due to potentially high numbers, 14U and younger athletes in the Avalon Region will have a separate tryout on Monday evening April 15th.

Registration is Now Open – Log into your account in Sport Lomo and select Team NL Tryouts 2024 (Cost: $30.00)

Deadline for Registration April 5 at 5pm. No registrations will be accepted after April 5 – if thinking about trying out it is best to register ASAP and then request a refund later if an athlete cannot attend.
