Keith Taylor

Keith Taylor, a native of Carbonear, received a Diploma in Physical Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1959. In 1962 he graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Physical Education and in 1965 received a Bachelor of Arts from the same university. While teaching at Memorial University of Newfoundland, he worked on his masters program form Boston University and graduated in 1973. He has successfully completed the course work towards a doctorate degree. He is presently Director of the School of Physical Education and Athletics at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

In 1966, Keith Taylor became the 1st president of Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association, a position he held for 5 years. He continued to serve as executive member for another 5 years.

He taught volleyball at Memorial University of Newfoundland from 1962 to 1985 and coached the Men’s Varsity Team From 1966 to 1984. In 1984 he was named AUAA Volleyball Coach of the year. He was selected Coach of the year in 1983 by the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association, and in 1982 the St. John’s “AA” Volleyball League voted him Coach of the Year.

In 1975 the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation gave him the honour award for outstanding service to High School Athletics, especially volleyball.

In 1977, this association recognized his efforts by presenting him a special award.

In 1968 Keith Taylor brought to Newfoundland the first ever international volleyball game, an Intersquad match involving the Czechoslovakia Women’s Team, and again in 1982 was a member of organizing committee which had the United States play the Canadian Men’s Team at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

In 1983 the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association made Keith Taylor its only honourary member. And he was the first inductee into the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association Hall of Fame
