Gerald Wheeler (Builder 2012)
Coached volleyball for 31 yrs in NL and continues to be a volunteer coach for school teams in Chapeau, Quebec.
During his coaching career, he has coached at all levels from Bantam to Canada Games and had coached both boys and girls teams.
Was instrumental in the founding of the Loopers Volleyball Club (along with Dennis Lush), that not only increased the level of participation for players in the” Loop” area but allowed these players to attend Eastern Canadian and National tournaments. Again, along with Dennis, were the first coaches to take players outside the province for the summer program to attend a tournament in Sherbrooke, Quebec With Alvin Domonie and Dennis, were the first coaches in the province to receive their Level 3 coaching certificate through a 5 day course delivered on the Island. Before then coaches had to travel to other provinces to do Level 3.
Attended a FIVB International conference in Quebec City in July 1995 representing NLVA Coaching Chairperson for NLVA from 1994-1996.
Attended 1997 Canada games in Brandon Manitoba as part of the coaching staff for the male Volleyball Team. Served as a regional contact for NLVA, supervising player selection camps for the summer program as well providing coaching clinics.

- Represented SSNL at various Provincial and Atlantic forums on Student health, wellness and sport—most recently The Atlantic Premiers Conference on Wellness in Charlottetown P.E.I
- Served on numerous district and provincial committees for curriculum development in Physical Education.
